Spelling Words April 8

It’s been a while since I’ve updated the spelling words! Whoops! We did take a break from spelling when we were studying the solar system, but I apologize for not having them posted last week. I will try to do better!

This week, we are looking at words that have nd, nt, mp, ng and nk. We have talked about how these particular consonants stick together. Our spelling words this week are king, thank, hand, sing, send, think, bring, bang, end, thing, and, long, grand, and young.

Counting Money

Today we started a chapter in math that is all about money. I told the kids about a game that I played with my own children to help them learn to count change. If you grab a handful of change and show it to your child, let them count it. If they get it correct on their first try, they get to keep it. If they make a mistake, they don’t. It was highly motivating for my own kids, and the 2nd graders are super excited to try it at home. Have fun!

Body Zombies!

We FINALLY finished our study of the human body, and the kids got to take home their bodies today. I can’t tell you how many times I said, “Your brain is upside down.” or “No, your kidneys are on the wrong side.”  I wanted to get a picture of the kids all together with their body aprons, and of course, the pic where they are zombies was my favorite. 🙂

Spelling Words

We are wrapping up our second theme in our reading program, called Nature Walks.  This week for spelling, we have a mix of different review words from the last three weeks, so there isn’t one overriding pattern to look for. We are working with words that have the long vowel sound spelled with a silent e, words that have a consonant cluster, and words that have a double consonant.  Our words this week are: hill, these, bone, grass, hope, cute, brave, swim, trip, stone, mess, next, drove, and mule.  Oliver, Grace, Jacob T., Simon, Olivia, and Yuri all scored 100% on our pretest, so they won’t have to take the post test this week. 🙂
