Week of February 4th

FRIDAY – Today you can choose to practice Africa quizzes OR go directly to the assignment European Influences on the Americas. The assignment – both map and worksheet – are due today. If not completed in class IT IS HOMEWORK!

THURSDAY –  Warm up – Countries of Africa. Work through these regional quizzes to learn the countries of Africa. The final exam will be in the first week of March.

Activity One: Scavenger Hunt! Use the map of European influence on the Americas as “clues” to sharpen your toponymy skills (how it got its name) for each location. WITHOUT putting the entire question into Google, use your “Google-foo” skills, and an atlas (or Google maps) to solve these riddles.

Activity Two: Say What?

Step One: Before you begin your research, predict what you think the official language will be for each of the following countries.

Step Two: Follow the directions below to look up the official language(s) of each country.

  •  Go to CIA World Factbook
  • Click on the drop-down menu titled Please select a country to view
  • Scroll down to the section titled People and Society ::
  • Click on the + symbol to open the section
  • Find the sub section for languages – the word (official) will indicate the official language(s) for that country. The rest of the languages are those that are commonly used by the population.

Worksheet for both activities posted in Google Classroom.

WEDNESDAY – Same as Tuesday – but the map is homework if not finished in class.

TUESDAY – Warm up – Countries of Africa. Work through these regional quizzes to learn the countries of Africa. The final exam will be in the first week of March.

MONDAY – No warm up.
