Steps to Success

Choose a country in Europe you want to travel to. Then research four to six iconic sites or historic landmarks in that country. Learn enough information about each to write a clear and informative paragraph (four to seven interesting and unique facts). You could also choose any festival with a significant history in the European country of your choice.

Below are search phrase to get you started. These are not the end-all. You may have to tweak them a little to find what you want. Add your own phrases as needed. And remember, once you find something interesting to you, you can search that thing specifically!! Each phrase ends with the name of your country

  • World Heritage sites in…
  • Places of interest in…
  • Interesting sites to see in ….
  • Interesting things to see in…
  • Tourist attractions in …
  • Festivals to attend in …
  • Annual events to attend in…

You are going to post a “travel journal” that describes what you see on your virtual trip. Other details to add to your journal include tourist attractions that you saw but did not research, such as foods you might try while visiting, and observations of the culture – things like traditional clothing or what they do for recreation. So write short notes down as needed.

Use Google docs to  record your research of each point of interest that you’ve chosen. Find 4 to 7 interesting and unique facts about each. Do not put them in your notes  in sentence form – put just the main ideas and short phrase facts or bullet format.

When your research notes are finished create a new  Google document to write descriptive and informative paragraphs about each of those features. Then post those paragraphs to your blog using copy/paste WHEN ALL OF YOUR PARAGRAPHS ARE FINISHED. Add relevant pictures to your blog. Remember though, as you plan your trip AFTER you have finished writing you may need to rearrange the paragraphs in an order that makes sense.

Use Expedia.com to plan your trip. You must plan for at least a one to two week stay in your country of choice. You must visit ALL of the features you researched and wrote about. You can search Expedia.com for package deals of airfare, hotel, and rental cars or price them out individually. A lot depends on the distance between the features you must travel to and the order in which you will visit them.

As part of your plan you will use the spreadsheet in Google Docs to create a budget for your trip. You must keep track of how much EVERYTHING costs. Sometimes the prices might be listed in Euros or another currency so you will have to use the currency converter to find out how much it is in US Dollars.

Don’t forget to share ALL of your Google Docs with Mr. D and leave them as “can edit”
