Dear Room 13 Families,

As you are likely aware, I will be having a baby in just a few short weeks.  In planning for my absence, I wanted to keep you informed with plans for the remainder of the year.

My last day with the students will be Friday, April 16th.  My long-term substitute will be Mrs. Teague.  She has been in for me on a couple of occasions this year and will also be team teaching with me for several days in anticipation of my absence.  Mrs. Teague will start with the students on Tuesday, April 20th and will finish out the year for me.  I will plan to attend our End-of-the-Year Celebration that Mrs. Teague will be scheduling.

We have scheduled a “Meet & Greet” on Monday, April 19th from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  We will both be in the classroom should you be available to stop in.

Mrs. Teague is very familiar with our school and the curriculum for the school district.  We will be working closely together to plan and to maintain our procedures and routines for your children.  It has been a very enjoyable year despite the hectic schedule and I have thoroughly enjoyed all of your children.  Thank you for the opportunity to work with them on a daily basis.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.  I will still be available via email and Mrs. Teague will also be reachable through our email address or school phone.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Soter

It’s November Already!

Posted by Mrs. Soter on Nov 10, 2009 in Classroom News

Dear Families,

I can’t believe it’s November already and how quickly Thanksgiving is approaching.  It certainly seems like Winter is nearing.

We have been working hard with our math units.  We’ve just completed data analysis, graphing, and time.  We will work on geometry through Thanksgiving.  There is an enormous amount to learn for geometry.  Try quizzing your child on quadrilaterals, ask them to look for spheres, cubes and rectangular pyramids as you drive about town.

We have completed our first attempt on our Third Grade Statewide Reading Assessment, called the Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (OAKS).  All students will have three opportunities to take the test, each time hoping to improve upon their previous score.

Report card packets will be sent home on WEDNESDAY, November 25th.  In addition to their trimester 1 report card you will find student work, assessment scores, and reports on your student progress.

A big thank you to parents and helpers that helped with our Halloween Harvest Party!!! As always, you are welcome to pop in to visit and stay as long as you are able!

Happy November!

March 17th

WOW! I can hardly believe it is the middle of March already!  Time is really flying.  We have been busy, busy!

Thank you to the students and families that we able to make it to our class music performance.  GREAT JOB!

Put another date on your calendar–MAY 6th.  Our class will be having a Poetry Performance and Dessert Social with our families.  More information will follow after we return from vacation.

We have all had a chance to take our Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (OAKS) in Reading and Math.  We did great!  We will continue our normal reading and math curriculum and offer another opportunity to take OAKS a second time later in the year as well.

Please remember to check out our link on the upper right side for upcoming dates.

Have a great vacation!

February 19th

Dear Families.

We have been busy learning lots of geometry during our math studies.  There is so much to know!  We have learned about solid shapes like cubes, pyramids and prisms.  We have compared plane figures like rhombus, trapezoid, and parallelogram.  The new word of the day is QUADRILATERAL.  Ask your child to tell what that means!  Last but not least, we have studied lines and angles like acute (a-cute little angle!), obtuse, and right angles.  Whew!

Our geology studies have been great fun.  The teams are earning “rock hounds” for teamwork, participation, and responsibility.  The team with the most rock hounds at the end of our geology unit earns a popcorn party!  We are looking forward to “eating” our way through the core of the Earth- sounds yummy! We will also be designing our science experiment next week and growing crystals in the classroom.

Hope you can stop in and see us sometime!
