Beach Clean-up Trip 2013!

March22

Eco Club is once again sponsoring a bus to take kids to Brookings for the Oregon Beach Clean-up day.  Join Oregonians from across the state to celebrate nearly three decades of twice-yearly beach cleanups along the entire Oregon coastline on Saturday, March 30th, 2013 from 10 AM to 1 PM. This effort benefits people and wildlife alike, supporting clean seas and healthy communities for present and future generations. You can join us in this effort by getting to the beach and checking in at one of the volunteer stations all along the Oregon coast.

Let’s cross our fingers for good weather! Thanks in advance to the 30 middle school students from Scenic for signing up for this fun community service activity.

Model Magic Monsters!

October22

Art Club met on October 17th, and we got a chance to unleash our inner mad scientist by creating mini monsters. We used an air dry material called Model Magic. It comes in the primary colors, so we made our own green (yellow & blue), orange (yellow & red), violet (red & blue), and my favorite; “blegh” (red, yellow, and blue). You can buy model magic at Michael’s and Fred Meyer if you want to be a monster maker too!

Art Club Meeting #2 POP-UPs

October4

Wednesday, October 3rd was our 2nd club meeting. Unfortunately, we had to meet out in the hot sun, so that I could keep an eye on my Academic Lab. Students learned how to make simple pop-up mechanisms and then cut construction paper letters to glue to the pop-ups. I gave out an extra challenge of drawing a picture from the point of view of an insect.

There is a whole world of paper artists out there to explore. Check them out!

Art Club has begun!

September20

Scenic’s first Art Club meeting of this school year was yesterday! Sixty-five students attended, that’s a record! Our activity was suggested by 7th grade member Megan Burkhart. She found the project online. Each artist traced their own hand and then drew repeated lines that curve through the hand. The built up lines create an optical illusion, OP Art! Student examples are soon to follow, so check back.

Spring Art Show

June4

Scenic students have once again submitted their artwork for a display in the Scenic Library. Make sure you come by and “Oooooh” and “Ahhhhh” at the impressive drawings, paintings, manga, and even a polymer clay car!
Then don’t forget to vote for your favorite artist. The ballots and ballot box are right by the display. You can only vote once, so make it count!
The top three artists will receive art supplies as prizes.
