Homework Update

I wanted to let you know of a few homework procedures that we have changed recently. I hope these changes are helpful both to the students and to families given our hectic four-day school week.

Math Packets:

We will now have a 6 page math packet that covers a variety of skills and concepts that we have learned throughout the year. The last page in the packet will always be a “challenge” page that is optional for students to complete. Those that correctly complete all the problems on this page will receive a Roadrunner track. This packet will come home on Fridays and is due the following Friday. Students should continue practicing math facts for 5-10 minutes per night. Additional math fact practice is optional but obviously encouraged. Math packets will be worth a total of five homework points.

Spelling Packets:

Spelling assignments will now be completed in reading centers. No more spelling homework!

Reading

Students are expected to read at least 20 minutes each night and record what they have read on their reading log in their homework folder. To get into the “500 Club” students must read 500 minutes for the month.

A friendly reminder that students are asked and are expected to have their homework folder at school each day. Please help your children remember this and encourage their own responsibility in keeping track of their folder.
