BIS Doors – Homecoming 2010

October 18th 2010 in Homecoming

Looking back at last year’s student board blog posts it is evident that BIS provided much of the leadership for a homecoming described by many as Crater’s best in the last two decades.  Major concepts originating in BIS such as “black out” Friday, a glow in the dark dance, fireworks, and helicopters are all in the works.  BIS sportswear design and retail skills are going to work providing T-shirts for only $5 and even taking the “black out” theme to the middle schools with plans to print shirts for them as well.  Crater “Eye Blacks” will go on sale soon as will black and orange beads all compliments of BIS.  Still more BIS skills and resources will be put to work using our sticker equipment for professional downtown window decorations and the engineering of simple machines are beginning  to be applied to the float.  You will all have the opportunity to sign up and help with these projects but first we need to continue the tradition of BIS leadership and innovation by coming up with some cool designs for BIS doors related to the homecoming theme of “A Heroes Homecoming.”   Here is some food for thought:

  • “Black Out”
  • The heroes of rock (Back in Black?)
  • The Hero’s Journey – the call, the challenges, the abyss, the transformation – to name a few
  • Heroes in business, innovation, and science (or other subject areas)
  • Community heroes
  • War heroes
  • Sports heroes
  • Dress up days (developed by representatives from each of Crater’s student leadership organizations)
    • Monday – Support our troops by wearing yellow
    • Tuesday – Dress as your favorite hero or villain
    • Wednesday – Wear pink to support heroes in the fight against breast cancer
    • Thursday – Dress as your favorite rock star to celebrate the heroes of rock
    • Friday – Black Out – dress in black to celebrate the heroes of Crater
    • Rogan’s CSB Blog

barber120002@district6.org Reply:

to have different layers of paper-

barber120002@district6.org Reply:

in side of each other

barber120002@district6.org Reply:

different colors

barber120002@district6.org Reply:

we could do some kind of symbol inside of each layer

hardin603890@district6.org Reply:

Like Black and Orange, or maybe silver?

barber120002@district6.org Reply:

exactly

neilson118052@district6.org Reply:

I think that sounds like a great idea! The black would make a good background color and then silver followed by orange.

Durand110014@district6.org Reply:

So putting a piece of paper inside another piece? wouldn’t that require you to split a piece of paper in half?

I don’t really think im down with the while heros thing. As for the idea of the doors and the dressing to community up, I think its a great idea. We need our community envolved as much as possible.

quimby120312@district6.org

I think that we should make door decorations that not only go with the hero theme, but also with what were doing each day, like have a door that talks about monday wearing yellow, and tuesday dress as a hero etc. So maybe make a door that cordinates each day.

Also we should do the sticker thingy Craft was talking about. We should make stickers all about BIS and Crater:)

brand110003@district6.org Reply:

but I think the stickers need better more colorful designs

Childers120070@district6.org Reply:

Eh, I think the stickers are good as is. More colors would just be annoying.

higinbotham128111@district6.org Reply:

I agree that sounds like a good idea to me.

metcalf110455@district6.org Reply:

The theme of homecoming is heroes.

quimby120312@district6.org Reply:

I know that, thats why im saying not only heros but also other things related to BIS so we can show School spirit

kapule120234@district6.org Reply:

good idea it gives a heads up on what is next!

peabody120099@district6.org Reply:

self120209@district6.org Reply:

This is a good idea we could have the main doors just be a general homecoming with the days for each theme for the days so everyone could know, then the doors closest to the enterance could be coordinate with monday, next doors tuesday, and so on with heroes, not superheroes, mixed in.

kosmatka110352@district6.org Reply:

I agree with tracy, fantastic idea, i’d love to have doors that talk to me. Such an outstanding idea!

quimby120312@district6.org Reply:

We could do cut outs of famous scientist like Albert Einstein as a door design

Durand110014@district6.org Reply:

quimby120312@district6.org Reply:

haha he was a hero, We should also do other heros like martin luther king

stickers need more….eye catching looks

kapule120234@district6.org Reply:

kircher118038@district6.org Reply:

No, it’s good to keep window stickers nice and simple. I think Craft did a perfect job on them. We are Crater Comets and it’s our homecoming. That’s what we are trying to show the town, and the stickers that Craft already made get that message across.

Childers120070@district6.org Reply:

I completely agree with Kircher; the ones that Craft made are perfect, and they get the message across.

Ok, so in case this isn’t easy enough, you can have “hero’s” if its something the hero owns, otherwise you can have “hero” or “heroes”.

minahen602097@district6.org Reply:

Eh… idk im not really caught up in the whole black out thing. i had never heard of the heroes thing but, i guess we could do a variety of things on the doors we deffintly need to support crater ans BIS so a window could be all about those. then another could be all about us beating the other team. idk though…

Durand110014@district6.org Reply:

How is that related?

Avatar
burfield123007@district6.org

I think each door should have a different hero theme. In the front of the school we could possibly have a black sign w/white writing that says, “Who Is Your Hero?”; Followed by each door having a different type of hero that goes along with our daily themes, as well as daily lives. For example, one door could be breast cancer themed, one armed forces, one basic family theme (saying family and a quote), etc.

peabody120099@district6.org Reply:

That is a good point

So i agree about the fact that there should be like different hero’s not just like super heros. But I think we should let the class choose what they want there door to look like and with the stickers we should definitely have Bis and Crater stuff.

There needs to be some good rock. Like some RHCP, Poison, The Offspring (I wanna be Sedated; Idol Hands), etc… There should also be some good ska, like Goldfinger or something. All I know for sure, is that Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock – It Takes Two MUST be played!!!

jakabosky120333@district6.org Reply:

I’m going to have to agree with McCormick on this one. If it doesn’t have a beat you can’t really dance to it. I mean you can dance to other songs besides rap, hip hop, and R&B, but what Crater student wants to square dance or rave all night?
There is a difference between music that you like to listen to and music that you like to dance to. They aren’t always the same thing. You wouldn’t see me pushing for island music at a dance even though I may like listening to it. I mean as much as I want to put on my coconut bra and grass skirt, Crater’s homecoming is just not the place for that type of music.
Some people like to listen to country music, but how often do you find high school students dancing to country. With all do respect, if you really want to dance to country music go grab your cousin Maryanne and square dance out in the boondocks.

If you can’t feel the beat, how are you going to move your feet?

Durand110014@district6.org Reply:

So essentially, if it’s not rap, it doesn’t have a tempo?

I think that the black out Idea pretty cool though and that we need to have more of the community into the rpojects that we do, it can open more oppertunites to kids even after they graduate.

I think that we should make a collaboration of all the themes and incorporate them onto each door poster, but we should have different people use different ideas to make them so that we don’t all have the same kind of decorations, and all of them should be in vibrant colors and cool fonts so that they seem more catchy.

Ok, In all seriousness.

My idea for the door is to have layered pieces of butcher paper with alternating colors
to show he underlying layers, each layer would have a silhouette that could be cut into a shape representing a hero, an idea/subject, a military faction etc…

this would be conservative in time for prep and cleanup but sill have a very cool visual effect.

I think a portrait of Tesla with lightning bolts behind him would be a great idea. I could be in black and white with yellow lightning so it would be easy to color. (if you didn’t know he discovered/invented AC electricity. without him we wouldn’t have power plants, we would have giant batteries. they would need to be disposed of and it all would be very confusing)
